Case Study

Wide-spanning analysis of a national second division football league

The Goal

During the upheaval of 2020, a major football governing body asked us to investigate a number of matches played in a National Second Division Football League. Manipulation was suspected so in-depth analyses were needed to cover a group of matches, involving several teams.

The Tactics

We not only focused on Asian betting markets, but also individual player performance on the field. We objectively collected performance data from available match footage, comparing to team and league averages. The aim was to identify statistical anomalies against the betting markets.
We identified a number of integrity concerns with regard to both betting market activity and the performance of several players and submitted our findings accordingly.

The Final Score

Integrity concerns were clear and we presented in-depth, clear reports showing our findings. This led to several clubs being disqualified from competition, a number of participants receiving bans. And finally, the overall suspension of the league.
