A high profile football match investigation
The Goal
In 2016, we identified suspected match-fixing in a high-profile football match. We immediately notified the relevant governing body, and the following year they asked us to help them investigate the match in detail.
The Tactics
We analysed the Asian betting markets in detail in line with the game in question. Focusing on the Asian Handicap and Total Goals betting markets for both pre-match and in-running, we used our specialist knowledge on betting market behaviour. Searching for irregular betting activity to indicate anomalies.
Our analysis discovered significant betting market concerns. In particular, the number of predicted goals in the betting markets and the awarding of an incorrect penalty in the game.
The Final Score
We submitted a clear, yet detailed report to the governing body. In-depth technical information was presented in an easy to understand format. We then provided an expert witness to deliver our objective findings to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. And the decision by the governing body to issue the game’s referee with a lifetime ban was upheld.
